Virginia Commonwealth University:
Located in downtown Richmond, Virginia, the school traces it's history back to 1838 when it was known as the Medical College of Hampden-Sydney, later becoming the Medical College of Virginia. It wasn’t until 1968, when the medical school merged with Richmond Professional Institute, that it became Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Since that time VCU has become one of the largest schools in the state with over 31,000 students and boasts nationally ranked programs in fine arts, health care, engineering, and social work. With over 11,000 employees, VCU's Medical Center is both the region’s safety net hospital and its top-ranked hospital and is the only Level I trauma center in the region that is verified in the burn, pediatric and adult trauma care.
